# Titles: job title trends in data, AI and tech

> How job titles rise and fade: 45 data, AI and tech titles tracked across 94,840 Hacker News "Who is hiring?" postings since April 2011, plus 5,246 open roles on 131 employers' public job boards, by fru.dev.

For each title: the month it was first seen (with a link to the posting), its monthly share of Hacker News hiring posts (percent of that month's postings mentioning it), the month it took off, current open roles by company from Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever job boards, the median salary where postings state a range, related titles, and a status (emerging, rising, established, fading). Titles are matched with a fixed synonym map (for example "Forward Deployed Engineer" and "FDE" are one title). New titles found on job boards or proposed by a model are listed as Unverified candidates until checked. Job boards refresh weekly (Monday 12:00 UTC); a new Hacker News thread is read on the 2nd of each month. Last successful refresh: 2026-09-24 02:47:22 UTC.
